As far as my background is concerned, I have all the credentials: bachelor and masters degrees in psychology, doctorate in marriage and family therapy from Florida State University. I am a clinical member of AAMFT (American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy). I've been a psychotherapist for nearly thirty years, both in public and private settings. I've worked in state hospitals, community mental health clinics, acute care settings, crisis intervention and vocational rehab. I guess you could say I've seen it all, at least in the mental health field. Early in my career I realized that the family is where I want to focus my attention. This is where people are made and, if we want to make a difference in this world and improve the future, early childhood is where we should turn our attention. But I don't want to work with little kids. So, focusing even further, I decided to concentrate on marriage and couple relationships. This is the usual context for raising children. And it's true that if the couple is healthy together, the children will usually be OK, too. Children learn what they live with. Then they pass it on. What I have here is a few of my columns for you to look at. I will change them on a monthly basis so you will always have a variety. If you like what I have to say, perhaps you'll consider ordering my book. The One-Minute Therapist is available in eight volumes. Each is $10 U.S. (add $2 for postage.) I will give a discount for multiple orders. Each volume contains 52 columns. If you request, I will E-mail you the Tables of Contents to help you choose. Or, just collect them all! Give them as gifts! So, thanks again for stopping by and I hope you enjoy my stuff. I'd love to hear any comments or questions. E-mail me at hughleavell@adelphia.net Peace, Hugh R. Leavell, Ph.D. |
